Judges & Emcees
Meet Our Judges
Our judges come from a wide variety of backgrounds. We are truly grateful to them for sharing their time and expertise!
Dwyer, Williams, Cherkoss Attorneys
Not many lawyers are as successful in court as they have been on the court. But Tim Williams is a rare breed. Before he became this firm’s lead litigator and an Oregon Super Lawyer, Tim sharpened his competitive edge as a forward on Southern Oregon University’s nationally ranked basketball team. He’s been winning ever since, first graduating from SOU with honors, then finishing law school and being nominated to top leadership positions with professional and civic organizations across the state and nation.
The competence and professionalism Tim brings to the courtroom extends to his work with various organizations that have become a priority for this civically active lawyer. Tim has held leadership positions with the Oregon State Bar, the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the J.R. Campbell Inns of Court, and the Rotary Club of Bend. He has also been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court – a distinction held by few.
Whether he’s working with leaders in the community or clients dealing with injury from a vehicular accident, a work-related incident or who have lost a loved one due to wrongful death, Tim’s track record of bringing home wins speaks for itself. Since 2003, Tim has won millions of dollars for his clients.
And speaking of wins… Tim and his pro dance partner Valerie, were the 2017 “People’s Choice” Mirror Ball Award Winners! Tim now holds the SWTS fundraising record for personally raising over $30,400 for Central Oregon Sparrow Clubs!!!
Meteorologist, Central Oregon Daily
Dorrell has been a meteorologist for 9 years. He was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and attended Mississippi State University, where he completed his studies in Broadcast Meteorology. After graduation, he started his career in Central Louisiana where he was the morning meteorologist for 5 years. Prior to joining the Central Oregon Daily News family, his career brought him to Bismarck, North Dakota… so he is no stranger to extreme winter weather and very cold temperatures.
Dorrell married the love of his life in October of 2017, just before moving to the Bend area to begin this new chapter of their lives together. They do not have any children, but they did adopt a fur baby while in North Dakota. Her name is Lily and she is a lab mix who was rescued as a stray puppy.
Dorrell and his wife enjoy spending time outdoors. This includes everything from hiking to fishing, playing golf and winter sports. They are looking forward to taking advantage of all of the different outdoor recreation opportunities, as well as learning how to curl and play pickleball.
Dorrell is the type of person who digs in and plants roots in the community. He loves to be involved in church and as many community events as possible. If you see him out and about feel free to say Hi! Both Dorrell and his wife are enjoying calling Central Oregon their home and have been diving into everything that our area has to offer.
Brown & Brown Northwest Insurance
Julie has had a long-time commitment to the mission of Sparrow Clubs, “empowering kids to help kids in medical need”. As a behind the scenes volunteer for years, she stepped into the spotlight last year as a Star dancer. With the help of her dance pro, Rod Hunt, she came home with the Mirror Ball Trophy… and a few others!
A native Oregonian from Coos Bay, she moved to Bend in 1981 and stumbled into the world of insurance in 1985. She found it met her need of being challenged and at the same time she could help people. In 1998, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Linfield College at the same time her son, Craig, graduated from high school! She has also completed several graduate college level courses, earning her Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Risk Manager Designations.
When not helping her clients, you will find Julie hiking, kayaking, building snow people, and snow shoeing. She loves to take spontaneous “wild hare” trips with friends. Julie is also known for her baking skills, which usually earns her the “empty plate” award!
Executive Director of the Redmond Proficiency Academy, Redmond City Councilor, and Sparrow Clubs USA Board Member
Jon currently serves as the Executive Director for the Redmond Proficiency Academy, a public charter school that he founded. He has been involved on countless layers of youth leadership and development. Jon caught the bug for mentoring while coaching high school athletics and advising student organizations in Corvallis, OR, eventually serving as Chair of the Kids Helping Kids division of Children’s Miracle Network in Eugene, OR. He now serves on the Board of Directors for Sparrow Clubs, USA.
Jon has volunteered with Sparrow Clubs in a variety of capacities – serving on the Board of Advisors, as a speaker at public events, an emcee for Swinging with the Stars, and even as a dancer in the inaugural Swinging with the Stars fundraiser, where he and his professional dance partner, Hayley Cruson, won the coveted Damian Award.
Jon has earned acclaim for speaking to students and educators about self-acceptance and the power of vulnerability. He gave a TEDx talk entitled “What’s In Your Bag?” that challenged people to be honest with themselves and those around them about their hopes, dreams, fears, and failures. These ideas are at the core of his leadership philosophy, as Jon knows it is through honesty that we foster compassion and understanding in our schools and workplaces.
Jon also serves as a City Councilor for the City of Redmond, as a member of the Board of Trustees for Southern Oregon University, and as the Board Chair for the Oregon Coalition of Community Charter Schools.
Meet Our Emcees
Our Emcees are vibrant, fun, funny… and have a history of being Sparrow Club supporters. Both have a tremendous amount of experience in public speaking and we are so grateful to have them with us again this year!
Combined Communications, DJ at 101.7
Sam is honored to be part of Swinging with the Stars for the eighth year in a row!
Prior to Bend, Sam spent ten years at the Second City in Chicago before moving to L.A. to work (but mostly not work) in film and television.
She can be seen yelling at the hunky Matt Damon in The Informant and getting yelled at by the hunky Jeremy Piven in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Other film and television credits include The Break-up, Parks and Recreation, and The Office.
On an unrelated note, Sam never litters, carries hand sanitizer with her everywhere, and plans to learn to drive stick shift this year.
Sam can be heard mornings on 101.7 – the adult alternative. She applauds all the kids involved with Sparrow Clubs and thanks you for your support of such a special organization.
Sales Manager, Kendall Toyota of Bend
Jack was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. He moved to Bend five years ago with his wife Nancy, and they had their adorable little girl four years ago. As an infant, she was cuter than the Gerber baby, but had a difficult time using progressive pronouns properly. She’s still has the cuteness factor going on… but she’s now worked out all the grammar issues.
Jack works for Kendall Toyota of Bend and has done a YouTube segment called ‘Test Drive Tuesday’, where he took a lucky (or not so lucky) local person out for a test drive. It was a whole lot of nonsense and PG-13 fun. Google ‘Test Drive Tuesday’ and he should be on the 16th Google page that shows up.
This is his fourth year co-hosting ‘Swinging with the Stars’ and he now understands ‘swinging’ means dancing. Glad he finally figured that out! You can find him locally on Monday mornings… taking out the trash and the recycle (every other week). Jack would like to say thank you to Sparrow Clubs for asking him to co-host again and for all they do to help empower kids to help kids!
