Travis Davis & Gabriela Peden
Payne West Insurance
Travis has volunteered in schools and youth sports coaching for the past 9 years and has seen first-hand the value of planting seeds of empathy in our schools. The Sparrow mission of “empowering kids to help kids in medical need” teaches life lessons to our young people that positively impact our community for years to come.
Travis married the love of his life, Katie, in 2000, after earning his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Portland. After the shock and excitement of expecting their first child sunk in, Travis and Katie promptly moved to Bend – while 5 months pregnant. Now with two middle school boys, the Davis household is filled with sports and books and, of course, Fortnite.
After 15 years in engineering and construction, Travis made a sharp mid-life swerve toward risk management. Working for an employee owned firm based in the northwest, PayneWest Insurance, Travis is able to serve the broader business community with risk advisory services and insurance placement. Katie still is active in-patient care as a registered nurse at St. Charles Medical Center and in their free time, Travis and Katie started Ideal You Weight Loss Center in 2011.
The only one more surprised by Travis agreeing to dance on stage was his wife Katie. She says, “If he’s crazy enough to learn to dance for Sparrow Club, then the least we can do is donate money to a great cause!”
Originally from south central Los Angeles, Gabriella Hernandez-Peden was raised around Latin dancing and culture. At ten years of age she began taking formal dance lessons and has remained an avid dancer ever since. Since moving to Redmond in 2007 Gabriela has been a strong supporter of Latin dance in Central Oregon. She established the Latin Dance Festival in 2011 at COCC and has been an instructor at several area venues.
Gabriela continues to enjoy training with top Latin dance instructors and performing at Latin Dance festivals and congresses throughout the western United States. When she is not dancing, she is busy in her new position as the Juntos Aprendemos Program coordinator for the High Desert ESD and spending time with her husband and two boys.
Gabriela has several friends whose children have been part of the Sparrow program and with her passion to dance, she wants to show her support for the ones that are still fighting and for the children we have lost.
